Kitty Update; RV/Truck Update; Nearing the end of my Fifties; Learning to Knit

My kitty would have been 16 years old yesterday, and he was down to less than five pounds. The decision was very tough, as it was not an emergency situation, and he still had an appetite. But, he was constantly thirsty, due to the kidney failure. I realized that I was only prolonging the inevitable with continuing to give him subcutaneous fluids. And the last thing I wanted was for him to suffer needlessly. His last ride was in the truck, looking out the window with his little fur blowing in the wind. He loved riding in the truck, and it always reminded me of "Toonces the Driving Cat" from SNL. We buried him with the ashes of his littermate, Mr. Buck. I loved, loved, loved those two cats and they went through so many life changes with me. I miss them both very much.

Our RV is scheduled for inspection by the dealer this week! Whoo-hoo! And, the truck is on the way, and is scheduled for delivery in one week. We almost didn't get the color we wanted because of the tsunami. The pigments for the paint came from Japan. Who would have thought? So, we are hoping, hoping, hoping that this time next week we will be moving into the RV and readying the truck with the hitch. This little 23 foot motorhome is tight, but we have managed fine. I have to say - I am so excited!! We still plan to hit the road July 5th. Whoo hoo!!

I had a birthday yesterday, and now I am on the last year of my Fifties. Wow, time flies! Phil gave me a hat that one would expect a Ram owner to wear. It was sort of a joke, but I really like the hat! It was the coldest birthday that I can remember - low 60's in mid-May is not the norm for Tennessee. We had a wonderful dinner at my favorite Thai restaurant, then stopped to pick up a Krystal Kreme donut and a birthday candle so that I could Skype my granddaughter Addison and have her "blow" out my candle. She is so cute! It was a good day.

Phil only has two more weeks before retirement! I am taking knitting classes, as I have always liked needlework. I have crocheted, embroidered and done needlepoint, but never knitted - until now. I really like it. My first project is a neckwarmer. I made it from baby alpaca, and it is super soft. And, I am adding two big buttons. I'll post a picture as soon as it is finished.

Life is good!
Deborah

Knitting is a soothing hobby. I think I might give it a try if we ever hit the road.

Pets are such a big part of our lives that they leave a large hole when they're gone.
Fingers crossed on a smooth rv delivery.

Hi Deb. I am so sorry to hear about your kitty. I know how hard it is to lose a member of the family that way. She was a lucky kitty to have such a home for her life.

I bet you are enxious for the delivery of your new home. What are you going to do with all that room?

I hope we get a chance to meet again in the near future.

So sorry about your sweet kitty. As the owner of an old cat, I can really understand what you have been through. You did the best thing. You will love knitting, it really helps slow you down a bit when things are rough, it's meditative. I only learned after I was 60 and I love it.

So sorry to hear about Paleo :( I know how hard it is. I told you about my cat who has the same issue. He's hanging in there, but I wonder how long.

Glad you had a good birthday yesterday!

Hi Deborah & Phil,
Sorry about your kitty; it is hard to part with our pets as they do bring us such great joy and companionship.
Hope all goes well with the new RV. Sherri and I would like to see you and Phil at the Grand Canyon this summer.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY

I'm so sorry about your kitty, it's hard to make those decisions, then you miss them so much. It sounds like you did the right thing for him, though.

Can't wait to hear about the new truck and RV. Sounds exciting.

I wanted to learn to knit, but finally sold all my knitting stuff in the Estate Sale. Maybe another time, I just never got to it. I'm looking forward to seeing photos of your neck warmer.

So sorry about your kitty but sometimes it is just time...our Butterball had the same problem. I just couldn't let her go until our vet of many years said we needed to put her first before our own feelings...he was right. I am right there behind you on the age thing...I think I will take up knitting also...lol....

I know how it feels to lose a belived pet. For 16 years I had 6 cats then one by one they had to be put down due to illness and old age. It was a terrible experience. I couldn't bear to see them suffer.

I hope you had a very happy birthday.

Looking forward to seeing photos of your RV.

I love my blogging buds! Thanks all for the thoughts of kindness regarding the loss of my kitty, and thanks for the birthday wishes! And, what a bunch of interesting people you are!

Sherry, enjoying your hikes - and to answer your question about the View - we are trading it in on the Fiver. Luckily the dealer allowed us to stay in it until the Fiver arrives, since it is our home!

I'm sure sorry about the loss of your kitty. Your post could almost have been written by me. We lost our 20 year old kitty on Monday. She was always a very tiny cat, but had gotten extremely thin the past year. We were also giving her subcutaneous fluids. Our decision was a bit easier because she had started having seizures and may even have had a stroke. Again...sorry for the loss of your kitty.

I'm still catching up on blog reading from being sick but wanted to tell you how sorry I am about your loss of your beloved kitty. Our pets are like friends and it hurts when we loose them.

And a happy belated birthday too.

So sorry to hear about your little kitty. It is so hard to make a decision like that. I hope we won't have to make that decision with our dog.

I'm sorry about your cat. My dog is 14 and still doing well so I hope he's around for awhile longer. I'm drawn to your blog because you have a View, until you move into your fifth wheel. How has is been? I recently bought a 2010 with 5,000 miles and hope to be on the road in the near future. It's only me and my dog so I'm hoping it'll be big enough. I still have a house so I can get by with taking a lot less stuff, which I intend to do. I also want to get rid of a lot of stuff in the house though. Hope you enjoy your new RV.
