I Needed a Sugar Daddy

I am learning that fulltimers who make reservations for the future, will likely change and/or cancel them. Yesterday, I discovered that my dental bridge was loose on one of the “anchor” teeth. I knew this had to be fixed, and better now, (only 81 miles from my dentist at no charge), than on down the road, (with an unknown dentist and thousands of dollars). So, I had a lovely drive back to Chattanooga today, to my dentist, Dr. Gallien. The best fix was to hopefully remove the bridge intact and glue it back. My dentist took one look, probed around a little, and told me to go find a Sugar Daddy, and come back. I looked and looked, but couldn’t find a Sugar Daddy. So, I settled for a Jolly Rancher! But, even that didn’t help, so the dentist had to cut the bridge to remove it from my anchor tooth.

I had a chance to see my good friend Terri again while in Chattanooga. We had lunch together and laughed at my predicament, as I tried to pull my bridge out with a Jolly Rancher.

So, long story short, we have a two to three week wait for the new bridge, before we can head north toward South Dakota. I was pretty disappointed, as I am very anxious to get on with our journey. Then I realized that we are still on our journey, even in Crossville, TN. Now we have more time to explore the area. And, we will have more time to spend with Bill and Gloria, a really nice couple that are staying at our campground. They have a wealth of knowledge on routes and campgrounds in the West, since they winter in Yuma, AZ. They have an RV like ours, and have taught us so much about the operation and maintenance that it has been like having a personal trainer for RV’ing!

I think it is important to remember that things can and probably will happen on the road such as, sickness, break-downs, dental issues, and pet issues. When they happen, we will deal with those things the same as we did when we lived in one place.

Life is good!

Ya, we just have to roll with it. But a lot of campgrounds have a no refund policy. On my last trip, I didn't make a lot of reservations because I didn't want to lose out on the money if my plans changed because of weather or whatever may delay my travel. I just tried to arrive early enough in the day for a site, figuring I had time to get to the next RV park down the road. A few times, I ran into a full park and I had to go find the next one and it all worked out ok in the end.

From what I've been reading for the last year and a half, there is almost always a spot available, Except for the "big" RV holidays like Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day.

If not at the park of choice, then in a close by place. Remember in a pinch there is always Walmart!

Think Jello and when you really do want to stay at a particular place for more than a few days, give it a trial night first.

Saying that, I have a KOA reservation for December 30 - January 2nd. But it is near the Rose parade nd I will have my Grandsons along so I don't want to take a chance. Even with that in mind, their cancellation policy is 48 hours in advance, only a $10 fee.

Things happen for a reason. This journey is your life...not your vacation ;o)) You just weren't done doing what you need to do where you are doing it!!

Enjoy the journey...

Hmmm, with a dentist THAT good looking, maybe I'll start eating more sugar too! :)

Good post! It reminded me of how I used to help the kids remove a loose baby tooth...bit-o-honey! :)

We rarely make reservations unless it's a holiday. I will usually call the day of, while traveling, to check availability for that day. If they're full, I'll call the next one on the list.

Laurie, his personality is as fun as he is cute. We have given him so much money that I feel like he is my son!

Nancy/Bill, I love your logic that I must not be done here yet! Sue, you are right in that sometimes in trying to hurry up and get there, we don't appreciate where we are!

Merikay, I am still trying to get the Think Jello thing....

Teri, Yep, it's costing us to cancel the reservation at Land Between the Lakes, but it's only $10. I guess they have to do something to keep "no shows" under control.

Gail/Rick, I tried Bit-o-honey, but it didn't work. I think we have learned that reservations are not the way to go...

I agree ~ Good looking dentist! After 7 years of full timing I can say for sure that stuff happens and we all adjust our plans. But guess what it always works out one way or the other. We still love this lifestyle!!!
Have fun & Travel safe

Hope all goes well with the dentist. As a planner I don't do well with curve balls. South Dakota will wait for you.
